According to the sacred scriptures of Sanatana, Bhagwan Parshuram is born to the sage Jamadagni and Mata Renuka on the third day of Vaisakh Shukla Paksha.

In childhood, the parents of Bhagwan Parshuram used to call him Ram. When he grew up, his father Jamadagni asked him to go to the Himalayas and worship Mahadev.

Pleased with the prayers of Ram, Bhagwan Shiv appeared and ordered him to destroy the evildoers. Ram destroyed the evildoers, pleased with his courage and valour, Bhagwan Shiv gave him a weapon called Parshu (Axe).

Rishi Jamdagni saw the whole incident with his divine sight and when Renuka returned, he ordered his four sons to kill Renuka but none of them obeyed his order. Just at that time, Parshuram came back and Rishi Jamdagni ordered him to kill his brothers and mother Renuka.

Bhagwan Parshuram obeyed his father’s order and killed his mother and brothers. After Parshuram obeys his father’s order to kill his mother and brothers, his father grants him a boon. Parshuram asks for the boon that his mother and brothers should be restored to life.

Why did Bhagwan Parshuram destroy Kshatriyas 21 times? Once Haihaya Kshatriya king, Kartavirya Arjun visited sage Jamadagini’s ashram. Rishi Jamdagni took good care of the king and his soldiers with the help of Devine Cow Kamdhenu.

The king was so impressed with the capabilities of Kamdhenu that he demanded it, but Rishi Jamadagini refused. Kartavirya Arjun took the cow forcibly with him and also destroyed the ashram.

When Parshuram returned and saw the condition of the ashram, he got angry. Angry Parshuram destroyed the whole army of Kartavirya Arjun and killed him with his Parshu (axe), and brought Kamdhenu back to the ashram.

One day when Parshuram was not present in the ashram, Kartavirya Arjun’s three sons killed Rishi Jamadagni. Furious at his father’s murder, Parshuram killed all the sons of King Kartavirya Arjun and his aides.

Bhagwan Parshuram pledged that he will destroy the Haihaya Kshatriya Clan completely. He fought with Haihaya Kshatriyas 21 times and destroyed them completely. He filled 5 ponds with their blood.

Ultimately, his grandfather Rishi Richeek had to appear to stop him from blood bath. Parshuram engages himself in penance for his involvement in violent deeds at the hermitage of Nara-Narayana and donated the whole of the earth won from the Kshatriyas to Rishis.
